All first-grade English textbooks currently in use in Taiwan were investigated, with their design method, narration and visual presentation analyzed. To accomplish the research purpose we used a three-stage approach. The first stage is review of recent literatures and theory related to English literature textbook illustrations. The second stage is collection of samples (of English literature textbook illustrations) for further use. Then in the last stage we analyzed and categorized the collected samples, to know the characteristics of these illustrations for discussion. The research results are as followings: 1. To enhance learning interest, illustrations in English literature textbooks should be comical and easy to recognize. 2. Shape and color of illustrations should be compatible with children’s experience. Exaggerating or unreasonable designs should be avoided. 3. Design of situational illustrations should be of strong visual effect, with realistic or imaginary scenes similar to everyday life but not too much detail. 4. Characters should be illustrated as animal or superman in eccentric shape to enhance attention and familiarity. 5. Color of illustrations in English literature textbooks should be vivid, but text depicting commands or actions should be an exception. 6. Facial expression of characters should be lively but natural, with traits that are easy to recognize and represent characteristics of different races. 7. Shape of alphabets used should be of correct scale. Kang,Min-lan 康敏嵐 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 108 zh-TW |
