The different conditions of teacher professional competence and teacher efficacy concerning background variances of high school teachers were also compared. Furthermore, the forecast based on teacher professional competence towards teacher efficacy in terms of the background variances of high school teachers was analyzed, too. The investigation of this study was based on questionnaire survey. High school teachers in Taichung City were investigated by ratio sampling as subject. 521 high school teachers were selected and 464 valid returned, with a 89 valid percentage. Descriptive analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s Correlation, and multiple correlations were adopted to analyze the data with SPSS 12.0 For Windows. The results were demonstrated as follows: 1. Significant differences were found in teacher professional competence in terms of educational background. 2. Significant differences were found in teacher self-efficacy in terms of educational background and education level. 3. Background variances of high school teachers could be used to predict teacher self-efficacy concerning professional competence. Some suggestions were provided to teacher training institutions, high school teachers, and further future researches based on the conclusions.
