From 2007 to 2009, the artist gradually recognizes and restructures her ego as knowing a stranger through the process of self-portraits’ creation. During the process, the artist experiences several important fragments of life such as fading, diffusing, sorrow, and obliterate, and the combination of the fragments provides viewers an unfamiliar and independent way to hold the clues of each painting, which make viewing each painting just like playing jigsaw puzzle. Moreover, the creation process are full off unexpected encounters (Ai Xuan, Self, others, grandmother, flower, and discourse), and it expand the artist’s limitation and vision. The artist’s psychological journey in the development phase turns into a dark-box that full of various and promiscuous thought, and she allows the unsettle thought to touch the unknown ego. If the artist can actually write down each component, it will provide her a new phase of knowledge of painting and ego. This essay contains seven points as following: 1.Look Up: To observe personal habit of facing different stuffs. Trying to look out further and taking courage as personal slogan. 2.Self-Portraits: To detect self from the real world. Taking the side of semblance, and its relations are fuzzy and resistant. 3.Quiet La maison:Facing the Space. The promiscuous thought. The soul is seeking for a place. 4.Inside Confronting: Concentrating on the changes in the self-portraits and listening to the inside voices. 5.Existence Anxiety: The existence of being a person. Facing personal anxiety. 6.The Path of Freedom: To know that I am the way I am. 7.Wahrheit, Love, and Attitude: Entering the phase of comfort and growing. The artist is like a snail which carries a shell of “self-portrait”—the soft body crawls outside the shell, slowly circles around the shell twice, and returns back to the shell once again—leaning to struggle out from the desires, jump out from the capricious and noisy stuffs, comfortably live alone in its own world, and sense the peaceful and satisfied status that come from the painting and self-feeling.
