According to earlier studies, many elder females still pay much attention on their outfits. The present research is aimed to investgate the color preference of females, aging older than 64 years old, living in southern Taiwan, from the viewpoints of their “cognitive age” and “clothing purchase concerns”. There are two groups of females from southern Taiwan, Group A (40 to 64 years old), and group B (older than 65 years old) participated the study. The samples of colors are selected from ten basic colors of Muncell hue circle and achromatic colors (black, gray, and white). The standard for color matching is using the angles of hue circle and the category of color tone of PCCS. The participants’“cognitive age”, “clothing purchase concerns”, and “color preference”were questioned. The results indicate that different cognitive ages of group A matched colors significant differently when the main colors were YR or GY. This phenomenon didn’t happen in group B. However, the differant clothing purchase concerns between two groups did not significant effect on their colors preference. Altogether, The result of hue matching indicate that red and purple were participants’favorite colors, especially for group A. The results of hue matching show the group B was more various than group A. The older particpants’ color matching gathered both at angle 0° of color hue circle and the achromatic colors. That presents harmonious and conservative visual effects. Group B spread out from 0° to 180 on color circle°. Thus the visual effects were various from harmony to confliction. The results of hue matching indicate there were greater differences of visual effects in group A. Thus, it presented a kind of vivid and lucid styles. Oppositely, the tone style of group B presented similarity and ambiguity. In conclusion, the extremely color preference should be caused by choice of younger group. Comparing the two groups, females between age 40-64 had more similar opinions for color matching. Oppositely, females whose ages were above 64 years old prefer more variable color matching.
