The researcher has collected quantitative and qualitative data: in quantitative data, a survey of students’ reading habits, attitudes and opinions toward reading classes for 5th and 6th grades students and a survey of reading classes of Mandarin pop songs were applied as a research tool; in qualitative data, the researcher has combined teaching recording, observation by the co-teacher, students interview done by the co-teacher, the teacher’s reflection notes, and students’ reading list to analyze the teaching procedure. After two months of reading teaching of Mandarin pop songs, main points were listed as below: 1.The practice procedure of Mandarin pop songs as a reading teaching material include three stages: A. Teaching material collection: after teaching topic selected, songs for reading teaching should be collected soon and its contexts and meanings should be confirmed properly as well. B. Classes design: after understanding students’ reading background, the context and schedule for each class should be fixed by order. C. Class activities: practicing four activities orderly: motive, activity, discussion, and extension learning. Leading students step by step to understand the lyric meaning and atmosphere by appreciation, discussion, sharing, and explanation. 2.That Mandarin pop songs applied in reading teaching in elementary schools helps students with learning interest. 3.That Mandarin pop songs applied in reading teaching in elementary schools helps students with reading understanding.
