Through the narrative of the study, the three marathoner’s past training experience and their perseverance on the sport are presented. This study is conducted based on the narrative inquiry model proposed by Riessman. With in-depth interviews, participation observations, and literature reviews, runners’ perseverance toward marathon is illustrated in this study. The results indicate that the runners began upon the concern of health. With more and more marathon experience integrated into their everyday lives, they acquired the satisfaction of accomplishment and felt the value of self. The psychological fulfillment turning into passion is the major driving force to push them keep on training for competition. Owing to the uniqueness of marathon, the main reason that supports the amateur marathoners to persist on long-term training and competition is perseverance, stamina, and passion toward the sport they love.
