Methods: Eight right-handed college basketball players with mean age of 21 ± 2.1years, mean height of 178.1 ± 6.7cm, mean mass of 72.5 ± 8.3kg and mean experience of 3 years participated in this study. Each subject was asked to perform 6 success jump shot ( 3 with opponent in static position and 3 with opponent in jumping position ) 4.5m away from the basket. One Mega speed 25k high speed camera (100Hz) was used to record the performance of the jump shots in different defensive conditions. The films were digitized by KWON 3D motion analysis system and the two-dimensional co-ordinates were obtained through the direct linear transformation (DLT) procedure to collect kinematic parameters. The data collected underwent t-test by SPSS 12.0 statistics software and the value of α was set to .05 being the level of significance in this study. Results: Significant differences were found between knee angle at the lowest position of the CM (centre of mass), horizontal velocity of the CM, maximum knee angular velocity during the time when subjects took-off to the ball released, the velocity of the ball released and the height of ball released in two different defensive conditions. When performing against an opponent in jumping position, the velocity and the height of the ball released increased, maximum knee angular velocity during the time when subjects took-off to the ball released increased, and the knee angle at the lowest position of the CM decreased. Conclusion: When shooting against an opponent in jumping position, players would try to release the ball much higher and faster. This strategy will lessen the chance being blocked by the opponent. It was suggested that training would benefit more from the practices with an opponent. For it would help players to condition themselves to the real game situation.
