The catalytic performance of the materials in transesterification reaction was compared in terms of various functional groups, different loadings and different morphologies. Base functional groups were found more efficient than acid groups in catalyzing the transesterification. High conversion of triacetin and yield of methyl acetate were observed on platelet SBA-15 functionalized with large amount of carboxylate groups.
