Fabricated in 65-nm CMOS technology, the synthesizer achieve the phase noise of -85.3 dBc/Hz at 1-MHz offset, the reference spurs of -55 dBc and the fractional spurs -40 dBc, consuming 73mW from 1.2-V supply. Utilizing a sigma-delta fractional-N synthesizer as the FMCW generator, the synthesizer linearly modulates the carrier frequency across a range of 700 MHz, with the RMS error less than 300 kHz. Further integration has been made with the transceiver front-end as well as an FFT-based baseband processor; this prototype provides a maximum detectable distance of 106 meters for a mid-size car while consuming 243 mW from a 1.2-V supply.
