| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 造形藝術研究所 === 98 === Locating in a strategic point, Taiwan is always coveted by the big powers. Taiwan was occupied and dominated by Japan in the end of the 19th century, and it caused the beginning of the Japanese Colonial Period which was lasting 50 years. With the special historical background, it made the development of multi-culture in Taiwan. Especially, architecture art is so abundant and history-worthy during the period of time. Lots of official and public buildings are magnificent and splendid. We also can see resplendent style in town houses everywhere in Taiwan.
Apparently, we can find western style or a mode of mingling eastern and western architectural form from these existing town houses, which is different from those with traditional Chinese form. The facade of town houses also show many kinds of subjects and cultures. It means that when dominating Taiwan, Japanese government introduced into it lots of western thought about art and architecture and formed a tendency to be the mode of architecture.
I try to research town houses in Taiwan with the information of historical background and field study, to figure out how to generate facade decorations of town houses from the parts of topic, material, designing, process, etc. Combining with historical background, I try to analyze and organize town houses in Taiwan to understand characteristics during different period of times, meanings of decoration patterns and the transition of town houses externals in Taiwan.
