“Interrupter”The Creation and Research of Interactive Installation Art

碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 多媒體動畫藝術學系碩士班 === 98 === The digital era of communication network has verified the multiple-to-multiple characteristic of new media such as video conferencing, Internet chat room and instant messaging software, etc. The multi-user long-distance communication has already become a new kind of communication mode and platform in this digital age. This research and creation focus on the communication experience of digital age, and demonstrate how the author interprets Network Chat platform through interactive installation art. Therefore, this literature covers the development of new media art, interactive aesthetic and the exploration of installation space, interpersonal communication channels and interfaces, as well as related creations, etc. The “Interrupter”creation is the author’s own experiences towards the using of network communication in an attempt to show a communication method generated by means of software recordings such as time difference, non-linearity and staggered dialogue connection, etc. This allows audiences to feel the meaning of network instant messaging and other software through the creations that they are interacting with, and to experience the common dialogue in the digital age. The author has constructed three organic inflatable devices using the animation element, with a computer screen in front of the devices to serve as the dialogue window. This allows audiences to experience the dialogue’s confusion and fun after it has been cut by time, non-linearity and staggered connection. Meanwhile, the author is able to interact with the audiences on-site through network connection, thereby bringing in rational factors into the dialogue creations. The interactive mechanism is supplied by a computer network connecting four terminals in series to enable audiences to dialogue with the past or on the instant in the forms of random database dialogue and alternative interlude changes of instant connection. “Interrupter”is able to bring audiences with sensory stimulation that is different from the previous art creations through the contemporary art vocabularies of diversified interactive mechanism, installation interfaces and field space, etc. As the contemporary communication media have already flooded in our lives, the author has hereby, put forward the changes and ultra-truthfulness of communication relationship to reflect man-to-man in the network era.
