| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 建築系 === 98 === Glass façade of cable net originated from Germany in 1990s. Its structure and form fascinated a great many architects who widely embraced it, for it is highly transparent, light and delecate. Since 2001, when the application of cable net façade first appeared in Taiwan, we have only seen 3 cases of design and construction which Taiwan’s teams have involved in the past 10 years. Thus, pursuant domestic documents for related discussion are rare.
Because the onset of the construction method was in European continent, where there are many advanced technologies in relation to the construction, direct application in Taiwan will inevitably lead to gap with supply chain of local technologies. Also, such means of construction can hardly adapt to the humidity of Taiwan, resulting in negative effects. Therefore, this study aims to collect the existing theories and case studies abroad, trying to consolidate the history related to glass façade of cable net, principles of construction methodology and development of deisgn forms. Accordingly, there will be some thumb rules for local design on glass façade of cable net and references for future designers.
This study is constituted with three parts:
1. Collect and consolidate existing case studies of other countries to define the structure forms and basic principles of construction.
2. Analyze related cases of locally designed works.
3. Investiage the issues and prospects of localization for such design.
Based on the afore-stated investigation, the study concludes the following:
1. Build up the basic principles for the forms and construction about glass façade of cable net:
Collect case studies and related construction information domestically and abroad. Consolidate information such as “Development history of glass façade of cable net”, “Categories”, “Construction principles of glass, cable net and boundary structure etc” and “Important notice of construction”. Finally, summarize “Issues of localization for glass façade of cable net”.
2. Analyze the issues of localization for glass façade of cable net:
It was not long before when the related technologies were introduced to Taiwan and the number of examples or cases island-wide is rather small. Thus, the designers have no basis or rules to follow due to lack of research documents and information pursuat to technologies. The main causes of staggering development of the construction also include out-of-reach barrairs for design, tremendous cost for construction, stringent room of development tightened by the business owners, and lack of domestic R&D and innovation. The dynamics of glass façade of cable net is quite unique and latent with the risk of inducing too much sunlight to the solar heat gain. Without well-rounded planning and coordination at early stage, the the glass façade will only bring about downsides to the overall design of buildings.
