It has been almost two thousand years since the human being first used paper. Its influence is widespread-besides being adopted to writing and recording, it is also applied to the purposes such as food container, goods wrapping paper and etc. These years, with the impact of digital technology, the human being’s habits of using paper have also gradually changed. Therefore, it is imperative for traditional paper-making industry to migrate and explore new development directions. This creative design applies paper-related materials to the goods for daily life. Through literature review and research on existing relevant design examples, it is anticipated that the design directions and elements with development potential can be discovered. Furthermore, experiment and concept of creative design will be conducted and taken into consideration to examine this design’s feasibility. The review and evaluation for this design of creation will also be implemented and, finally the expected results can be taken as the basis for product development and further creative design. Four specific design results are screen, paper desk lamp, paper ceiling lamp and paper tea table. The reflections on the creation can be summed up as follows: (1) Connections among product’s function, behaviours of using the product and texture of paper-The product’s function and user’s behaviour should be the top concerns when one tries to apply any material to product design. Material needs to be selected and exploited to meet this kind of request. For this reason, how to moderately apply material into product is definitely a challenge for every designer. (2) Artistic idiosyncrasy and traditional culture presented by paper texture-How to enhance and glorify precious history and culture and the tradition of fine arts and crafts is a very important issue for all of us. Paper-cut, origami and others created by paper all are rich in profound cultivation of humanities. With the trend of globalization in the future, only developing one’s own unique style can make oneself compete with various countries! (3) Accumulation of the understanding toward material and new idiosyncrasy through material experiments and practical operation of design-The experience and idiosyncrasy that one can create in a process of practical operation usually vary with different designers. Due to different life experiences, the result is also diverse. However, by recording the outcomes of innovation process, different results and suggestions extracted from different thinking models could be easily accumulated. In doing so, the achievements made by different designers can be collected and then be compared with each other. Finally, much more results will be generalized.
