This is partially because gossip can be difficult to define precisely and conceptualize. In spite of some of the morally dubious aspects of gossip, recent research results suggest that not all gossip was found to be harmful in organizational settings. The primary purpose of this study was to empirically investigate the relationship between employees' tendencies toward workplace gossip and job involvement, as well as to examine the intervening effect of organizational socialization. In a cross-sectional design, a sample of 870 full-time employees from different types of companies and organizations in Taiwan were interviewed using structured questionnaires. After controlling for the effects of demographic and work-related factors, the data were analyzed using a hierarchical regression model to test 4 main hypotheses. The major findings of the study were: 1. Employee’s tendency towards workplace gos-sip is positively associated with organizational socialization. 2. Organizational sociali-zation is positively associated with job involvement. 3. Employee’s tendency towards workplace gossip is associated positively with job involvement. 4. The relationship between employee’s tendency towards workplace gossip and job involvement is posi-tively and partially mediated by organizational socialization. Finally, the managerial implications of this research for organizations and future research directions are also identified. Hsieh, An-tien 謝安田 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 132 zh-TW
