A qualitative research employing in-depth interviews is used by interviewing eight single male officers to collect their lonely experience in intimate relationships. The study found that the main reasons triggering loneliness in unmarried male officers in intimate relationships can be divided to three levels. First, the "demand dissatisfaction" generated the lonely feeling; second, "crises" triggered by loneliness; third, "military characteristics" that led to loneliness. The loneliness generated from demand dissatisfaction includes a total of eight features, which are "lack of companionship", "helplessness", "lack of attention," "lack of recognition", "unfulfilled expectation", "insecurity", "lack of understanding", and "the inability to possess". Crises triggered by loneliness are mainly the quarrels between the lovers and other conflicts, as well as the competition with the external third party’s potential involvement in the relationships. The four components of loneliness arising from military characteristics are demonstrated by "long distance", "time deficiency", "negative image" and "special missions" in military life. The approach to dealing with loneliness consists of five ways, including shifting the attention, getting emotional support from relatives and friends, improving the current status with their girlfriends, coping with lovesickness, setting his teeth and hoping for dawn. At the end of the research, the researcher puts forward some suggestions according to the research results. Ju,Mei-Jen 朱美珍 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 0 zh-TW
