Before an injection, healthcare professionals must snap off the neck of a sealed storage ampule and aspirate the solution inside it with a syringe. However, the zigzag glass surface from snap-off of the ampule neck often cuts the hands of healthcare professionals while preparing the drug. This study designed an ampule opener that could completely cover the neck of an ampule, keeping hands from directly touching the ampule and avoiding cuts made by broken glass or zigzag glass surface during the opening process. A dull saw blade inside the opener helped rub and wear the neck of an ampule and made the opening process safer for healthcare professionals. In this study we ordered one batch of custom-made 1ml, 2ml, 5ml, 10ml and 20ml laboratory ampules from a glass manufacturer. Angle measurers and EMG patch electrodes were placed in the hands of ten participants of this study. Next, the participants opened ampules in three ways: followed instructions in the clinical technical manual to open ampules with bare hands, followed instructions in the clinical technical manual and wearing rubber gloves to open ampules, and used the ampule opener. This study compared ampule opening time, difficulty and safety associated with the opening process in different groups. Study results showed that the time, difficulty and safety varied significantly among the groups. The results may serve as a reference for healthcare professionals, healthcare facilities of all levels and pharmaceutical companies in the future. 劉伯祥 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 0 zh-TW
