By using GPS (Global Position System), we can estimate any location on earth. Since 2001, FCC demanded the cellular phone to show the location of the caller when he made an urgent phone call. The accuracy of position is required about 125m. The regulation means the manufacturers must install the GPS receiver in the mobile phones. In the first section of this paper we introduce the concepts of the GPS, including the theory of location, structure, fundamentals, etc. In the second section we describe the planning of the GPS module design, according to the different applications by customers. The GPS can be made in different forms to meet market requirements. We evaluate the performance for 3 interfaces, USB (Universal Serial Bus), UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter) and PS2 (Personal System/2). In the third section we study the relation between RF Layout and EMI by using simulation tools, such as Ansoft Designer and HFSS. In the last section we present the experiment results on the road in Tainan City to prove the GPS module made by us works well.
