Currently, to receive Internet radio stations mostly use software that played on a PC, or use a commercial Internet radio receiver. The former one is not economical, and there are problems, such as power-on time-delay, power consumption, heat dissipation, exposed to computer viruses, and not easy to operate like traditional radio receiver, the latter one is its higher hardware cost. In this paper an independent, inexpensive Internet audio broadcasting receiving system based on an embedded platform has developed. The hardware platform used for this project is a PXA270 development board, and the core software is an open source MPlayer and the graphical user interface designed by QT graphical environment. The network receiver can access not only global Internet radio stations directly; it can be used also for local area network as network speaker. It provides easy to use, intuitive touch operating interface that enables local and remote control. Currently, to receive Internet radio stations mostly use software that played on a PC, or use a commercial Internet radio receiver.
