Method: Using the indicators of the “Evaluation of Nursing Homes” Project launched by the Department of Health as a reference, this study adopts the technique of purposeful sampling and surveys a total of 94 staff members from various nursing homes. Survey results are analyzed using SPSS12.0. Results: The average age of the nursing staff members (45.88 years) is considerably higher than those of the administrative and medical staff members. In regard to the educational background of all the staff members at nursing homes, 59, or 62.8%, are graduates of senior colleges and universities; only a handful of them have received a master’s degree. A considerable number of staff members (36.2%) have worked for more than five years. In terms of the scopes of these nursing homes, their minimum number of beds is 15, while the maximum number of beds is 239. When comparing results of evaluation with the types of nursing homes, substantial differences are found between their “scopes”, “attributes” and “locations”. When comparing the indicators of evaluation with the variables in the work backgrounds of staff members, substantial differences are found between “health care” and “administrative management”. When comparing the indicators of evaluation with the characteristics of nursing homes, substantial differences are found between “administrative management”, “safety and environment” and “care of life”. Conclusion: This study suggests that in accordance with the results of evaluation, the most appropriate scope of nursing homes should be within the middle range. There is still ample room for improvement in the quality of care provided by private nursing homes, hence it is absolutely necessary to conduct evaluation on nursing homes. As most residents at nursing homes are in relatively severe conditions, it is important to demand for the professional qualities of nurses. 藍守仁 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 62 zh-TW
