Not only does it cause children to move from fantasy to reality, but also enables these young readers to explore the meaning of their actual life by reading stories. Many children are inspired by the books that they read, and this has a great benefit on children’s mental development. Zhang, Zhi-Lu is most influential children’s fiction writers in both China and Taiwan and is also one of the four great kings of children’s fiction writing in the international Chinese community. Zhang’s creative writing is diverse, but the majority of his works are fiction, fairy tales, film scripts and tele-scripts. His outstanding writing has earned him a prize from the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY, Switzerland) and also awards from other national and international associations of writers, not to mention his repeatedly receiving children’s literary awards in China and Taiwan. In addition, with regard to Zhang’s children’s fiction, many scholars, professionals, critics and writers have also expressed their appreciation and respect for his works. Zhang’s twelve children’s fictions have been published in Taiwan. These publications are the focus of my study. First is an introduction about Zhang, Zhi-Lu’s background from his childhood to adulthood, which aims to understand the motif, course and contents of his creative writing. Subsequently there is a study of the key focus of Zhang’s children’s fiction which includes the existent distress, conflict and reconciliation between parents and children, the confrontation and recognition between teachers and students, the violation in campus and interaction of the same generation, the misery for advanced education and sentiments towards the opposite sex. Next, Zhang’s creative writing style in his children’s fiction is probed: the writing style across genres (education topic vs. science fiction, fantasy story vs. realism, literature vs. film, in conjunction with film techniques and typical characters). Finally, a conclusion that discusses the value and influence of Zhang’s children’s fiction and its significance in the development of children’s fiction as a whole, and in conjunction with education, reading and writing guidance. Key word:Children’s ( fantasy) fiction, Cross Genres, Plot novel, Typical characters 余崇生 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 178 zh-TW
