Description
Summary:碩士 === 臺北市立教育大學 === 中國語文學系碩士班 === 98 === Temple couplets, synthesized by religion, custom, literature, carving, and calligraphy are important historical records of townships’ cultural development. The researcher gathered 362 couplets from the San Guan Da Di temples in Taoyuan with three main gods, called as a whole San Guan Da Di, and other gods. Then the researcher went on to write down the couplets, analyze them and arrange them in groups. The places for the couplets to hang in the temples were depicted as well. Six chapters are included in the research. The first chapter is the introduction to the motive, the goal, the extent, and the methodology of the research as well as a review of topic-related studies. The second chapter with three sections sorts out what Hakkas did in Taoyuan and how they struggled against the hard times by looking back on the past and studying the correspondent literature works. This chapter mainly talks about the natural and social environment of Taoyuan, the origin of the belief in the three main gods of San Guan Da Di Temples, and the history of the visited temples. The third chapter, composed of four sections, discusses how the couplets started and how they have shaped, trying to get further information about their meaning, origin, forming principles and functions. The fourth chapter, comprising three sections, deliberates on the language features of the couplets from the San Guan Da Di temples in Yang Meizhen, Jungli City, Pingjen City, Longtan Township, Dasi Township, Bade City and Gueishan Township. The first section analyzes the length and the contents of the couplets; the second one explores the couplets’ writing style; the third one examines the art displayed in the couplets. The fifth chapter, consisting of five sections, probes into the diversified contents of the couplets by examining the couplets’ connotations, what people wish, how the temple-goers are affected by the couplets, the possibility of visiting the temples on the school filed trip, and the cultural diversity as well as how the different groups of people get along with. In the sixth chapter are the results and suggestions generated from the research. The researcher hopes that the temple couplets will get more and more emphasis and the temple couplets will be accepted as the teaching materials for the school field trips. Even though temple couplets, a precious stone in the literature works, have caught a few researchers’ eye recently, the researcher hopes that they will be paid much more attention and further studies to in the future.
