Summary: | 碩士 === 大同大學 === 工業設計學系(所) === 98 === "Paper-cutting" is a popular form of traditional Chinese art, often used in religious ceremonies, decoration and formed into decorative arts of life. In traditional Chinese customs, during the day of a daughter’s wedding, the dowry is usually covered with auspicious paper cutting shapes filled with festiveness and symbolizing joyous reunions and cheerfulness. The pattern characteristic of heaven, earth, people and all things related demonstrates the humanistic spirit of the people-oriented ideology, so paper-cutting shows the meaning of the rituals of traditional Chinese thought and spirit.
During this study’s exploration of the art of paper cutting we discovered that Chinese paper cutting has the potential for reunion images. After in-depth study of the historical origin and development of paper cutting, followed by in-depth analysis of the meanings of paper cutting and customary application, and then turn the patterns into abstract form and creative design specifics used in product design, this study can become an example for future studies of cultural design.
