Description
Summary:博士 === 雲林科技大學 === 工程科技研究所博士班 === 98 === This thesis presents the study of several optical filters based on a one-dimensional photonic crystal (PC) containing a single or double ultra thin metal films. The first part of this thesis is to introduce the theoretical method, i.e., the transfer matrix method, derived by Yeh and Abeles, respectively. The following chapters present a series of designs of the reflection-and-transmission filters. The first proposed structure is a polarization-dependent reflection-and-transmission filter, which is operated by varying the incident angle of light. The second structure is a heterostructured narrowband filter formed by cascading two photonic crystal structures. Each structure contains a single metal film such as Cr or Fe. In addition, the center wavelength of Cr metal film filter is set to be 700nm, while the wavelength of the filter with Fe is 650nm. Finally, based on the first structure, we study three novel devices such as an optical refractometric optical sensing device, and two tunable filtering devices using a defect layer of LiNbO3 and a photonic quantum-well, respectively The results of this work suggest that the proposed structures can be used as a polarization device, and/or a wavelength multiplexer in optical communications. Furthermore, some structures can be applied to color decoration and refractometric optical sensing.
