The LD student is a 7th grader in Chiayi County who has difficulty recognizing the letters of the alphabet, let alone writing them. Before this study, he has no phonemic awareness and phonics knowledge, and has been diagnosed as an LD learner. In this study, the pre- and post-tests had been conducted for the LD student before and after the remedial alphabet instruction. The result of this study showed that the participant made good progress in alphabet recognition. However, in this study, the LD learner still has troubles in connecting alphabetical sounds and graphemes (phonics) after remedial alphabet instruction. During the three-month instruction incorporating the online system, alphabet and phonics instruction had positive effects on helping the LD learner recall and memorize the learned but unfamiliar letters of the alphabet. In addition, the LD learner was able to associate the letters and sounds such as to pronounce ‘a’+ ‘n’ as /æn/ although he still had troubles in pronouncing other letter-sound correspondences.
