碩士 === 雲林科技大學 === 漢學資料整理研究所碩士班 === 98 === From time immemorial, the ethical thinking of male superiority and female disadvantage is the mainstream in Chinese tradition. In the traditional thinking of feudal and ethics, the concept of male is heaven and female is land has been deeply rooted in traditional Chinese ethics. It has become an unequal treatment that male is in the master status and female is menial. Literature is the reflection of the social life and microcosm of the real society. The rise of the literature is closely related to time, society, politics, economics, and culture. Liao Hui-Ying grew in the background of Taiwan''s economic take-off, and the society was coexistent of tradition and modernness. She insists to discuss the female plight and difficulties at that time from the viewpoint of female, and comfort the hearts of most women by the influence of her literature. The thesis discusses the enlightenment history of women from the novel “Seedlings” by Liao Hui-Ying. Take A-huei’s mother in the story as a sample, the thesis discusses the process of how her mother elicit the seed of enlightenment in her heart and finally escape the fate of women under such imbalance of rights and obligations. The expression of feminist consciousness is the most salient characteristic of Liao Hui-Ying’s works. Perplexed women who grew under patriarchy can be seen in her novels. These women often struggle in personality, spiritual and economic independence. The thesis focuses on woman of different times and cultural background created from Liao Hui-Ying’s works. The discussion of the course of the internal struggle to patriarchy of these women, and their growth of developing women consciousness to women independence, from lost to awareness, and finally self-realization is also presented.
