Description
Summary:碩士 === 國防大學中正理工學院 === 材料科學碩士班 === 99 === The mesophase pitch with good spinning ability is an important precursor of pitch-based carbon fiber and the key factor affecting the difficulty of carbon fiber spinning and the carbon fiber’s performance. In this thesis, heat treatment in the pressurized or pressure-reduced atmosphere was carried out to produce the mesophase pitch precursor. The polarized optical microscope was used to observe the pitch morphology and evaluate the growth of the mesophase pitch. The solvent separation method was used to analyze the molecular weight distribution and composition change of the pitch after heat treatment and modification. The viscosity and overall fluid property of the heat treated pitch was determined with the softening temperature measurement. The effects of process parameters on the mesophase pitch formation from coal tar pitch and the mechanisms of molecular weight distribution variation in the heat treatment were studied in this study. The difference of the mesophase pitch formation between heat treatment in pressurized and pressure-reduced atmosphere was also discussed. A two-stage (pressurized/pressure-reduced atmosphere) heat treatment method to prepare mesophase pitch was also preliminarily conducted. According to the analysis of the infant results, the optimized process parameters for good balance of good yield of mesophase pitch and acceptable softening point were speculated.
