The eight interviewees were currently working in different elementary schools in Yunlin County. Their career revolved around growing experience, learning process, profession adaptation and housework load, through which the conclusions and suggestions were drawn accordingly. Below were the main findings of this study. I. Female elementary school directors didn’t specifically plan for a career . Therefore, each of their life stages was unique and proceeded respectively. Based on the eight interviewees in this study, life process was categorized into the following six phases: Growth, Occupational choice, Marital family, Teacher , Director, and Middle age. II. Female elementary school directors were insistent and devoted themselves to work. They believed that the meaning of work was to contribute to student success and school development. Both these were the key to their sense of fulfillment at work. III. Stereotyped sex-role expectation affected the elementary school directors in their choice of occupation. First, they viewed a female teacher as the best alternative for a profession. Second, they were often doubted in being promoted for supervisory and executive jobs because things had not yet approached an equal footing with men. Third, they were likely to sacrifice their achievement inexchange with that of their spouses due to the omnipresent notion of male superiority and female inferiority in traditional marriage. IV. Female elementary school directors hoped they could play the role of both family caretaker and vocational performer. On the contrary, they were often strained between family choirs and the duty as a mother while they were fighting in their career. In other words, they had their career significantly interrupted or delayed for family reasons. V. The career of female elementary school directors was upheld by their parents, teachers, superiors, and some important others. Among them, the support and understanding from the spouse played the most crucial factor. VI. Female elementary school directors paid much attention to in-service learning. Self-confidence was enhanced through the ever-increasing fame as a person with expertise. VII. The closer the female elementary school directors arrived at middle age, the more objective and understanding they became when scrutinizing conditions around them. They would anticipate their future career to comply with their self-needs rather than merely meet other people’s expectations. 陳幸仁 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 166 zh-TW
