This study explores the pulse and backflow phenomena occurred while fluid is transferred using a peristaltic pump, and systematic analyses are performed. The 5 areas of tube beds are defined. According to the properties of the areas, a series of analyses are performed for different shapes of tube beds. The laser engraving processing technology is used to create tube beds of different geometric shapes. By measuring pressure, the changes of pressure inside tube beds can be found. Then this study attempts to remove pulses and find the best operation conditions in order to obtain stable outputs. Currently, there are usually 3 to 12 cams on rotors of peristaltic pumps in the market. This study tries to change the numbers of cams to find out the influences on flow and stability. The numbers of cams used in this study are 3, 4, 5, and 6.The result of the experiments shows that the best flow rate is achieved with the peristaltic pump with 3 cams. Therefore, this study conducts the pulse tests using the 3-cam peristaltic pump, the peristaltic pump sold in the market, and the syringe pump. Under the same flow rate, the pulse pressure of the peristaltic pump sold in the market is 80 times that of the peristaltic pump designed by this study with the curvature radius of R1.0mm. The result is satisfactory according to the comparison with the peristaltic pump sold in the market. Under low rotational speed, the output stability of the peristaltic pump designed by this study is as good as that of the syringe pump, so its operation conditions are very good.
