The examination is often concerned by high school teachers and students. As for English exam, the exam can be divided into two major parts: multiple-choice one and non-multiple-choice one. The non-multiple-choice one is further divided into translation questions and an English composition. Although the translation questions only account for 8 percent of the total score of the exam, they play a vital part on the exam, and also test students’ capability of applying English on the translation questions. Therefore, a study on the translation questions on the English exam may assist high school students to be aware of sentence patterns, English tenses, voices, sentence types, and translation techniques. The main purpose of the study is to discuss and analyze the translation questions on the English exam in JCEE among 108 translation questions, and classify these 108 questions into several categories, including test scores, test numbers, sentence patterns, sentence types, English tenses, and voices. Moreover, several translation techniques are shown to discuss how to better students’ English ability. There are some major findings in the study. The English tenses most tested are simple present and simple past tenses. Almost translation questions are active voices. The sentence structures often tested are simple sentences and complex sentences. 20 points in the translation part has been changed into 8 points in this part.
