The metabolic disorders resulted from insulin resistance also leaded to dyslipidemia, and excessive glucose favors polyol pathway, and increases the generation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), which finally causes diabetes complications. The crucian carp complex formula extract includes Carassius auratus, Dioscorea opposite, Lycium barbarum, and Rehmannia glutinosa. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of crucian carp complex formula extract on type 2 diabetes mice. Type 2 diabetes mellitus was induced by 40mg/kg STZ by injection into BALB/c mice for five days continuously. Then, mice were fed low or high doses of crucian carp complex formula extract for four, eight, and sixteen weeks. Results showed that crucian carp complex formula extract didn’t have hypoglycemic effect, but improved insulin resistance and decreased resistin gene expression. This extract inhibited DGAT-1gene expression in adipose tissue, reduced lipid synthesis, lowered serum cholesterol and triglyceride concentration. In addition, this extract also elevated the activity of antioxidant enzymes in serum, liver, and kidney, as well as reduced lipid peroxidation. The activity of aldose reductase, the key enzyme of polyol pathway, was lowered by this extract; and the concentration of fructosamine has also reduced. Therefore, these results supported that the crucian carp complex formula extract had the effects in reducing visceral fat accumulation, decreasing lipid, enhancing insulin sensitivity, elevating antioxidant capacity, and inhibiting glycation in type 2 diabetes mice. 徐成金 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 79 zh-TW
