Description
Summary:碩士 === 朝陽科技大學 === 應用外語研究所 === 99 === This survey study aimed to investigate the use of vocabulary learning strategies (VLS) among English major students in a university of technology in Taiwan. Participants were 191 students from the Department of Applied Foreign Languages. Two instruments included a vocabulary learning strategies questionnaire (VLSQ) and a vocabulary level test (VLT). The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS 13.0). 1. Among the five categories of VLS, DET was the most frequently used and the most effective category, while SOC was the least frequently used and the least effective category. A significant positive relationship was found between the frequency of using VLS and the participants’ perceived effectiveness of using VLS. 2. Significant positive relationships were found among the participants’ tests (VLT) and DET, MEM, and MET respectively. 3. Significant differences were found in Items 4, 6, 11, 21, 26, 35 and 36 between male and female students. Female students used more items more often. 4. In addition, among four age groups, significant differences existed in the perceived effectiveness of using VLS in Items 24, 43, and 45. The results may provide information for EFL instructors and learners on the issues of using VLS and enhancing word power.
