Therefore, the “energy saving & carbon reduction” has become one of the most important research topics. Elementary education is considered to be the crucial milestone to promote the cognition and attitude toward carbon reduction, so that it is extremely significant for young school children to take roots, develop correct concepts and carry out in daily life. However, in addition to the education for school children, teachers should also possess the awareness about the environments, themselves and professional knowledge, in order to be more effective in the promotion of educational work. Hence, this study was established to understand the differences of cognition and attitude toward carbon reduction for the elementary school teachers in Yunlin county from different backgrounds. The researcher categorizes the study objects into 10 variables including (1)gender, (2)age, (3)educational status, (4)marital status, (5)years of teaching, (6)location of school, (7)school size, (8)position, (9)teaching subject, (10)whether participated in learning activities related to energy saving and carbon reduction, and analyze the impacts of personal background variables on cognition and attitude and their correlation. To achieve the purpose of research, questionnaire survey was adopted as the research method. The title of this self-compiled questionnaire “A Study on Teachers of Primary Schools in the Basic Cognition and Attitude of the Education Promotion about Energy Efficiency and Carbon Reduction in Yunlin County” and the researcher chooses qualified elemenrtary school teachers in Yunlin County as a population and then goes on the stratified random sampling to distribute 800 questionnaires and collects 733 effective samples. The effective collecting percentage is 91.63%, and the study has adopted SPSS17.0 statistic software to do the descriptive statistics. According to the results of the study, we can discover: (1)In personal background variables, rates are higher for female, 26-35 years old, college of teachers, 6-15 years of teaching, the general area, the number of school classes more than25, grade teacher, to teach language subject, ever participated in learning activities relatedto energy saving and carbon reduction. (2)In aspect of cognition, the average score for male is higher; the age groups of 26-35 and 36-45 are higher than other groups; 5-year junior college is the lowest; the married, unmarried and divorced groups are not obviously different; more than 26 years of teaching is the lowest; the metropolitan is superior; school sizes do not differ obviously; grade teacher and the group of other professions are the lowest; the courses of natural science & life technology and fine arts & humanities are much higher; the group of participation in related activites is higher. (3)In all variables, the better groups about attitude are as follows: female, more than 56 years old, college of teachers, married, more than 26 years of teaching, general area, school size between 7-12 classes, the course of fine arts & humanities, ever participated in learning activities related to energy saving and carbon reduction. (4)In aspect of the correlation between cognition and attitude, there is no significantly positive correlation between them.
