All of them needs to use push-over analysis process. There is no reliable theory can be used over ever since because of plastic hinge for shear of reinforced concrete. Moreover, the probabilities of damages of non-ductile behavior and shear failure are quite high because of the insufficient in the shear stress of hoop reinforcements of the frameworks of old buildings. The retrofit project which was provided by National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering didn’t consider faultlessly about the situation of the progressive-decreasing strength of shear force of reinforced concrete. Therefore, it is possible to overestimate the seismic capacity of structure. The target concept of structure retrofit of this research is that after it had been retrofitted, it not only should be able to resist the regulations of design seismic force which in Taiwan''s buildings earthquake-resistant design codes but also should make the lacking in amount of steel bar which was disposed for the component of beam or pillar not go so far as to occur moment and shear failure. The research methods were the steps designed by traditional structures. Besides, I took Taiwan''s buildings earthquake-resistant design codes as references. I counted seismic force by using the DesEQ94 program which was written by my teacher Professor Chih-Chao Chang. Then I found four retrofit proposals and proceed to be analyzed by ETABS program. I compared the advantages and disadvantages of the retrofit proposals by the amount of steel bars of frameworks of buildings. From analytic result knowing, the effect of the external buttress wall is the best. The external shear wall is weaker than the front one and the effect of retrofitted with RC jacketing which suggested by National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering is the lowest.
