We apply Al2O3 coating layer by means of the Rokide flame spray system to create thermal barrier coatings (TBC) on stainless substrate to improve the substrate mechanical properties. The main purpose of this is to study the optimization processing parameters of flame spraying for the high quality thermal barrier coating layer. We set a variety of flame spray process parameters as diverse parameter, such as coating thickness, the angle of flame spray, the distance of flame spray and fuel ratio (C2H2/O2). Therefore, there are 12 set of samples to be investigated, meanwhile the hardness test, tensile test, optical telescope observation, SEM/EDX analysis and porosity observation are executed. To compare these data which we got from test results, we realize what the key parameters from affect the coating quality of flame spray.
