In literature, we will detail discuss various methods to calculate anchoring energy and compare the process with different range of pretilt angles and limitation of available. This study takes advantage of simulation software Dimos (Wintek support) to obtain the numerical solution of voltage-retardation (V-R) of LC cells with Rapini-Popular model as surface anchoring model. Compared our analytical solution with numerical solution of V-R, we can find out the effective coefficient of anchoring energy range. We also propose the method of linear relation between V-R and calculate the analytical solution of anchoring energy. According to the analysis, we calculate the error bar of analytical solution from numerical solution. Finally, we demonstrate the analytical solution of anchoring energy coefficient by measuring V-R utilizing the samples with different pretilt angles. We successfully calculate the analytical solution in the range of pretilt angle from 1°~ 44° and anchoring energy coefficient from 10-3~10-6 in homeotropic LC cells. We also verify the analytical solution in three samples with different anchoring energy and mark the error bar of measurement.
