This study used input-oriented slacks-based measure data envelopment analysis to assess productivity, profitability and marketability of International Pharmaceutical Industry, employed cross efficiency measure to identify the best practice, utilized Bilateral Method compare different attribute company productivity, utilized Malmquist index to estimate productivity change over a five-year period, and finally applied Tobit regression analysis to examine the effects of environmental factors on productivity. The results of this study release: (1) in average, the sampled international pharmaceutical firms performed badly in terms of overall productivity, and marketability, but performed well in profitability; (2) by the year of 2009, 14 firms were experienced increasing returns to scale and other 6 firms were experienced constant returns to scale; (3) Boehringer-Ingelheim is the best practice in overall productivity and marketability, GlaxoSmithKline is the best practice in profitability; (4) a firm with a high level of overall productivity has a high level of marketability,but has a low level of profitability; (5) firms in Asia performed better than firms in Europe and firms in America in terms of overall productivity, marketability and the firms in three regions were indifferent in profitability; the small-scale firms outperformed the large-scale firms and the firms with a low level of R&D expenses outperformed the firms with a high level of R&D expenses in terms of overall productivity, marketability, and profitability; (6) the firms had slightly decreasing in productivity growth due to the decreasing in technological change; (7) the year of the firms had a significantly positive impact on the overall productivity of the sampled firms。
