In order to provide the parameters of control diabetes, the present study was carried out to investigate the oxidative stress, antioxidants and trace elements in therapeutic patients with diabetes. In this study, we investigated the serum and whole blood of therapeutic patients (more than 6 months, n=105) and healthy controls (n=50). The marker of oxidative stress, malondialdehyde (MDA), was assayed by High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The antioxidative enzymes, such as Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and Superoxide dismutase (SOD) were determined by kits and Spectrophotometer. Three trace elements, such as chromium, zinc, magnesium were measured by Electrothermal Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (ETAAS) or Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (FAAS). The Student’s T-test of biological statistics was employed for the evaluation of data. In this randomized prospective study, there were significant differences (p<0.01) in diabetic compared with controls, besides the zinc. The factors of age, hospitalized, gender and HbA1c were considered between the two groups. In the older group, SOD was significantly higher than the younger group. In the non-hospitalized group, GPx and zinc were significantly higher than hospitalized group. In HbA1c≧8.0 mg/dl group, MDA and GPx were significantly higher than HbA1c<8.0 mg/dl group. In conclusion, our results indicated that the antioxidative enzymes and oxidative stress decreased in well-control DM patients. It may be can Tracked regularly the parameters of HbA1c, MDA, magnesium, zinc and chromium to prevent of diabetes mellitus and other oxidative stress-related diseases.
