Modern cities not only use MRT to provide stable, reliable, and quality transportation services, but also raise their competitiveness by implementing MRT systems. It helps a lot to upgrade the convenience and accessibility for residents. Taking the MRT systems in Kaohsiung as an example, the stylish station design often attracts several tourists, and changes the economic development situation of the station neighborhood. However, after the RED and ORANGE lines accomplished, no new lines being planned to expand the network of Kaohsiung MRT. It is a major topic that how the Kaohsiung MRT continues the urban progress and development, instead of burden under such limited circumstances, and how to achieve the effects between transportation systems by defining transportation position among regions In the past, several researches discussed the influences to life that MRT service area and networks bring to a city. Most of these researches focused on analysis of traffic related construction and transportation changes carried from a specific station, line. The thesis utilizes literature review and case study research, and induced the important indicators for urban development through the related theories and documents. Besides, it summarizes the industry and commerce environment developing statistical data in 5 major metropolises of Taiwan for the past decade, and finds the connection between MRT system and urban development. Furthermore, it concludes the actual influences that MRT systems bring to the whole industry and commerce environment by comparing the important indicators for urban development. Finally, the discoveries within this thesis will be turned into practice and provide recommendation for public policies and future researches, which are able to bring most advantages to Kaohsiung MRT system and further urban developments.
