The optimal parameters for slurry, the final solid content, and NiO/YSZ ratio were approached by trial and error. The results show that an anode film with the thickness of 60~120 μm can be made by water-based process. Other important results are: 70 wt% solid content at the first stage of ball milling, 50/50 of NiO/YSZ wt% ratio, 53.64 wt% final solid conent in slurry which possesses better rheology characteristics and drying rate, 89.32% thermal compression ratio, 65% sintering shrinkage, 5.37 g/cm^3 of average bulk density, 15.3% average open porosity which becomes 23.32% in reduction atmosphere, and 1.16 times the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of YSZ. All these data show there is more space for process improvement. The measurement standard deviation (SD) of the anode film prepared by premixed powder of NiO/YSZ reduced significantly, showing that the dispersion increases during premixing. Besides, no substantial changes appear, with 87.91% thermal compression ratio, 5.34 g/cm^3 of average bulk density, and 15.7% average open porosity which becomes 23.32% in reduction atmosphere. Neglecting the smoothness of film, the binder with the composition of PVA:PVP:Gelatine (100:0:0) makes the film have an excellent tensile strength of 0.285 kg/mm^2 and a toughness of 8.50 N/mm^2 . However, the smoothness of the multilayer ceramics is an important factor for lamination. By using the binder with the composition of PVA:PVP:Gelatine (89.5:10:0.5), the smoothness of film has been improved remarkably, with a slight reduction of tensile strength (0.208 kg/mm^2 ) and toughness (7.10 N/mm^2 ). Comparing all characteristics, we conclude that water-based process has close characteristics to organic-based counterpart.
