To achieve the goal of helping users retrieve library collection effectively, enhanced bibliographic records may provide a solution. However, it’s the empirical study that shows how enhanced bibliographic records help users and what actual user needs are. The study seeks to explore user needs for and viewpoints on enhanced bibliographic records, including usage status of enhanced bibliographic records, items used based on different types of resources, preferred ways to display items, important items to users, and items actually required. Using a questionnaire, library users were randomly sampled. The quantitative data was collected from four universities with collection more than 600 thousand volumes, including National Chung Hsing University Library, Tunghai University Library, Feng Chia University Library, and Providence University Luking Library. 546 questionnaire were distributed during the end of March to the beginning of May 2010, and 519 were found valid with response rate of 95%. The study finds that: (1) While users do need information of enhanced bibliographic records, efforts of such work made by libraries in Taiwan are not enough. (2) Users have different viewpoints of adding what items for bibliographic enhancement. Ether in resource types of atlas, pictures, and photographs, or in other resource types, “Introduction / Abstract” and “Partial content” are the items most wanted. On the other hand, in resource types of theses and proceedings, “Cover image” is the item least wanted; in other resource types, “Link to Findbook” is the item less wanted. (3) As for ways to display items for bibliographic enhancement, direct display on bibliographic records is most preferred. (4) Users are positive to enhanced bibliographic records, and also believe information of enhanced bibliographic records would help them identify resources. (5) Since needs for “Introduction / Abstract” and “Partial content” are the highest, library could consider adding these two items first when beginning works of enhanced bibliographic records, and then provide information of enhanced bibliographic records according to different resources types. (6) Up to 89.6% of users indicate that enhanced bibliographic records help them identify resources, which means enhanced bibliographic records are so convenient that provide surrogates for users to locate resources effectively. 張慧銖 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 146 zh-TW |
