Description
Summary:碩士 === 中興大學 === 環境工程學系所 === 99 === This study investigates the correlation between traditional method and coloirmetric method analyzing COD and SS in a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). A colormetric based rapid screening method for different industries and metal-plating industries effluents was developed to assess the feasibility of employing the colormetric method to measure COD and SS concentrations. This alternative coloirmetric COD and SS methods were used to access the efficiency of pretreatment to meet the discharged standard of the Wastewater Treatment Plant of an industrial park . Colorimetric method is a rapid, cost-effective, and environmental friendly method. It is able to shorten the operation time and decrease analytic cost. Traditional method of determining COD and SS concentrations must employ analytic instruments. These analytic procedures are time-consuming and also produce some chemicals that are harmful to the environment. However, the colorimetric method, not only a rapid testing but also using non-pollution chemicals, allows rapid testing of discharged water quality without initiating another pollution problem. The results indicated the Colorimetric method is suitable for self-assessment before the wastewater discharging into the collection system when COD concentration is higher than 100 mg/L and lower than 100 mg/L for general industrial and metal-plating wastewaters, respectively. The colorimetric method for SS and the traditional SS have poor correlation. Therefore, this colorimetirc SS method is not recommended as a self-assessment alternative method prior to discharging into the collection system of the industrial WWTP. However, the correlation between Colorimetric method and conventional COD is better, so this method can be further used as an alternative method to access the pretreatment efficiency before discharging into the industrial WWTP.
