According to the policies in different countries, many kinds of Chinese herb extracts had become legal medicine in Europe, but sell as functional healthy food in United States market. The dry root of Salvia mitiorrhiza is a very important traditional Chinese herbal medicine, and has been used extensively for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Pharmacological studies showed that Salvianolic acid B, rosmarinic acid, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid and tanshinone IIA are active components with a variety of biological activities. Chlorogenic acid is an ester of caffeic acid and quinic acid, and widely distributed in Honey Suckle flowers and Eucommia leaves. Combination of traditional medicine and transgenic plant as bioreactor for producing the constitutional and medical value metabolites is the development key point in the future. Thus, the transgenic plants can eat directly or prepare the drug for injection and oral medicine. To clone the corresponding genes related to the biosynthesis of chlorogenic acid in Salvia miltiorrhiza, which is hydroxycinnamoyl transferase. Study the founction of it and compare with other plan.
