Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 科技管理研究所 === 99 === Pharmaceutical industry is largely characterized as one of the most innovative, knowledge-based, technological capable, and R&D-intensive industries. The innovation in the industry has been driven by the persistent and successful pharmaceutical R&D efforts. As innovation is the key to the success of the pharmaceutical industry, substantial investment usually is needed by pharmaceutical companies for technological capability building and new products R&D. One of the major problems of Thailand''s pharmaceutical industry is that most of Thai private companies are small in size and therefore lack the capabilities and resources in producing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) which results in heavily dependent on the importation of APIs from other countries (Kuanpoth, 2006). In addition, Thailand''s pharmaceutical industry lacks well-trained personnel, equipment, resources, and a supporting chemical industry. The purpose of this study is to examine the best practices in acquiring core competencies of successful Taiwanese pharmaceutical companies in order to provide suggestions to the strategies for Thailand''s pharmaceutical industries to improve their ability to establish their core competencies. In the face of increasing competition, effective strategies for establishing higher technological capability of pharmaceutical manufacturers are essential which demand high executives to learn best practices and key success factors (KSFs) that can help their companies to promote and optimize productivity. Therefore, this research studied ScinoPharm, YungShing Pharmaceutical, and TTY Biopharm which are three most successful pharmaceutical companies in Taiwan to uncover their KSFs that might be applicable to the development strategies of Thailand''s pharmaceutical industry. This research interviewed high-ranking managers to discuss their strengths and KSFs. Moreover, this study utilizes secondary data to carry out a SWOT analysis to find out the strengths and constraints for both the Thailand''s and Taiwanese pharmaceutical industries. The results from our interviews reveal that core competencies critical to Taiwanese pharmaceutical companies are: technical competences, physical facilities competences, intellectual property competences, marketing competences, and management competencies. Our findings could contribute to the improvement of the capability and competitiveness of Thailand''s pharmaceutical industry.
