Our study attempts to provide retailers a strategic validation of suppliers through validating supplier’s intangible resource endowment and quantify their strengths in augmenting product safety. Our study proposes product safety to vary by the extent of degree of relational alliance between retailer and its suppliers. Further, as heterogeneity exists among suppliers, the study believes product safety to vary by the extent of relational investment a supplier commits to. A total of 61 valid data collected from suppliers of principle retailers in enabled empirical examining using Partial Least Square statistical path analysis. Finding from our research assist retailers optimize their supplier selection, enabling retailers an effective allocation of resources in developing strategic relations, and ultimately improve product safety performance. Theoretically the study contributes to the field of supplier selection by providing new and objective perspectives on validating suppliers of retailers from a resource based viewpoint.
