Librarians play a key role in the daily operation and long-term development of library. Their work performance and attitudes are closely related to the quality of library services. Therefore, how to help librarians to establish correct work values and to improve their job satisfaction becomes an important issue of library management. The purpose of this research is to study the correlations among personal background, work values and job satisfaction of university librarians in Taiwan. It is hoped that the results will reveal the current situation of university librarians’ work values and job satisfaction, the impact of personal background, and the relationships between them. A questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the 1,027 librarians across the 65 comprehensive universities in Taiwan. 530 questionnaires were distributed by e-mail and web-form questionnaire was used. 431 questionnaires were received and 403 were usable. The data was analyzed by SPSS software using Independent-Sample T Test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson Product-moment Correlation and Stepwise Multiple Regression procedures. The conclusions of the study are as follows: 1. Most of the university librarians consider work values very important. 2. Generally, the university librarians are not very satisfied with their jobs. 3. The personal background of university librarians have significant impact on their work values, gender excluded. 4. The personal background of university librarians have significant impact on their job satisfaction, education background excluded. 5. University librarians’ personal background, work values and job satisfaction are significantly correlated. 6. The university librarians’ job satisfaction can be predicted by their work values. particularly the “interpersonal interaction”. Li-Ping Chen 詹麗萍 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 138 zh-TW
