In this thesis, we propose a Time-oriented Care-of Address (TOCoA) generation scheme and use the care-of address table lookup mechanism to speed up the DAD processing. Since the CoA collision may result in unexpected packet re-transmission, the proposed TOCoA replaces the conventional EUI-64 address by embedding timestamp the new CoA to reduce the collision occurrences. While a collision is detected, the MN is re-assigned a CoA by decrementing the timestamp by one until no collision occur. As the execution of DAD in both MIPv6 and FMIPv6 may take 1000 ms, which is the largest part of the handover procedure, by adopting table lookup mechanism, this time can be shortened to be less than 100ms.
