Past academics have conducted lots of researches in this field and resulted many valuable findings. However, these academics have adopted different reference to describe Chinese phonological glossaries and resulted in synonyms questions. Also, since the twentieth century, many academics have redefined Chinese phonological glossaries based on the Western perspective and led to the phenomenon of synonyms become more complicated. It is important to clarify the meaning of glossaries when learning Chinese phonology, especially in the issue of synonyms because it may confuse the learners. In order to resolve these questions, this study chooses several important Chinese phonology publications to explore the synonymous phenomenon and categorizes them. Further, this study investigated Western and Chinese phonology and summarized them using systematical comparison. This study also reviews the phenomenon of Chinese phonology and compared it using the method of terminology standardization. These contributions hope to provide benefits in teaching, academic and cultural research. Finally, based on the results of research findings, this study provides some suggestions for resolving the questions of synonyms and terminology standardization. Those would be helpful for teachers and learners in the Chinese phonology field.
