Based on the concept of hydrodynamics and coastal procseses, the appropriate range of the coastal buffer zone will be discussed and determined. The seaward boundary of the coast buffer zone is assessed using the SBEACH software with 50-year return period typhoon wave conditions as the input data. The landward boundary of coastal buffer zone is estimated by wave run-up empirical formulas. According to the results of the numerical simulations and calculations, some instructive suggestions are proposed for planning the coastal buffer zone at Taiwanese Coasts. Based on the results of SBEACH software and wave run-up empirical formulas, the selected section of coast provides the width of the buffer zone. The highlights of the thesis include the following parts. (1) Large ports, such as Taichung harbor, its enormous scale obstructs to make a plan on the seaward boundary. Therefore, the harbor is a board line which extends to this both sides of costal buffer zone. (2)When we plan the land boundaries , this location consists of estuaries which results in discontinuous boundries. In this case, the harbor can make a connection with the coastal buffer zone which makes the area is easily organized and provided the consistency. (3) Offshore islands face different directions of the sea which cause the harbor to receive the diversity of typhoone waves. Because of the small islands, the procedures for deciding the shoreline boundary is complicated. For this case, we recommend to take the maximum value of the simulating results and make a unified plan in the island, based on the value less than the maximum typhoon waves. (4) In the same section of coast, such as the existence of flat and deep topographies at the junction of sea boundries that are hard to draw the boarder. It is desirable to perform the average connection or use the maximum value for the planning used directly to plan the maximum value. Tai-Wen Hsu Tai-Wen Hsu 許泰文 藍元志 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 103 zh-TW
