We apply dynamic programming (DP) to the traditional distance-based location reporting method to determine the optimal location update scheme with an objective of minimizing power consumption in mobile computing. The proposed DP-based energy-efficient location update scheme can also tolerate the location reporting errors within a satisfied level.
