Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 英語學系 === 99 === This project addresses the teaching of simplified Romeo and Juliet in the second grade of junior high school in central Taiwan. The research questions addressed are as follows: 1. Is simplified Romeo and Juliet a suitable language learning material for junior high school students? 2. What are the students’ attitudes toward this study? 3. What do the students learn from the instruction? Through the application of the extracts of simplified Romeo and Juliet and multimedia teaching materials, researcher introduced the play and discussed marriage issue with participants in the seven periods. Two secondary English teachers and about fifteen participants were interviewed after the instruction. It was concluded that most of the participants held positive attitudes toward this program and what participants obtained from the instruction were not only language learning but also moral teaching. Besides language learning and moral teaching, participants also developed autonomous-learning attitude after this program. Researcher herself also gained a lesson that she should always look back on her teaching and revised her teaching approaches and pace. The results and findings of this study indicated that applying simplified Romeo and Juliet was helpful for students’ learning and it could be implemented in junior high school with better-designed materials and plans.
